COMMENT(S): Voluminous

I don't understand why they need to make this book so expensive. Who is going to pay $90 for it when the material is available else where and a free xerox copy could be surely found. The Pibroch Society needs to stop trying to rip off pipers and start making this stuff more available. Are they in the business of a business or are they in the business of spreading the art and the knowledge?

There are a couple of different reasons behind the price being so high. One is that the book is a small pressing of a volume that is relatively expensive to produce. Producing a few hundred copies of a volume like this is a lot more expensive than running off a couple of million Harry Potters. Another is that this book is (I presume) printed in the UK and has to be physically moved to North America, a process that is not by any means cheap. Add in a margin for the Piobaireachd Society (who I believe make most of their income through book sales), and a margin for your retailer, and there you have most of the cost.

Why not make it available free on the net and eliminate all those expenses that are passed on to the poor pibroch enthusiast or academic? I gather it is a lovely book but what use is it if nobody can afford it?

Pipers: When making a taorluath or crunluath from D, slightly flex the right-hand's fingers out a bit just before the movement. This will help to lift the ring-finger for that B gracenote.
