| The results are a bit like mythical Californian referenda where people supposedly vote for tax cuts and spending increases. Make it harder for people to become and stay judges and you will get fewer judges to choose from. The heavy handed approach can't work. What is required is that suitable people are encouraged to judge and develop their judging skills because they have a passion for the music, not because they are threatened will expulsion. Most of the judges I know, good and average, do it because they think they have something to offer and are asked to do the job. As a rule they have thick skins but if their involvement becomes punitive, they will find something more positive to do with their time. | |
