Re the Northern Meeting photo.... Next to Rab W looks like a very young Euan MacCrimmon. Next to Dr Angus in the foreground is Fraser Fifield, in the background is Gavin Walker. Far right is D.J MacIntyre, not Roddy McCourt. Don't know about the remaining unknown though.

The gentleman in the centre of the photo is Norman MacLeod, Suardal. Why do I know this? I have no clue, I just do.

Well done, Andrew, and thank you Mr. Parkes. Very, very interesting, and I appreciate the candor. I had to laugh - we're the same age and play in Gr 1 bands...and beyond that, I wouldn't dare compare anything. Amazing, inspiring guy. Can't wait for part 2!

Great reading and very useful. I play in grade 2 and my band could really do with waiting with tuning a bit longer. In dry climates ( e.g. Swedish winter) it takes quite a while before the pipes settles. Looking forward to part 2 and 3. Thanks to Richard Parkes for sharing his knowledge.

Pipers: Never remove a chanter from the stock by grabbing the sole even if it's plastic. It's habit forming and you might one day change to a wooden chanter.
