COMMENT(S): Give us Another Song

Dear Sirs, I read with much interest Tom Bowen's recent P&D article "Give Us Another Song", a review of the St. Laurence O'Toole Pipe Band concert held in Pittsburgh on November 10, 2007. Reading the article it would be logical to assume that the SLOT band rented the hall, took the risk on ticket sales, and publicized the concert in Pittsburgh, all the way from Dublin, Ireland. Quite a feat! In the future please include the name of the producer of the concert under review, for without the producer, no concert would have happened. In this case the producer was George Balderose and the Balmoral School of Piping. In my opinion, mention should also have been made of the context of the SLOT concert: The SLOT concert and the first Junior US Solo Bagpiping Championship were the main features of "The Balmoral Classic", a weekend event that also included two receptions and a parade. I was hoping for P&D coverage of the whole event. At the least the article should have mentioned the other events going on so your readers could get a more accurate picture of why SLOT was in Pittsburgh. Yours truly Curt Shaw

When teaching solo drumming, patience is a necessity. Enforce the basics. Don't rush the student into playing rudiments/tunes too difficult for them.
