COMMENT(S): Livingstone's art centre

Did they play anything new? I remember hearing all those things the reviewer mentioned in the 1990s. Used to be a 78ths concert was evrything new every time out. Great band mind but are they still pushing the bounadries?

I have never really bought the whole "78th Frasers pushing the boundaries" line. I think they have consistently been great interpreters of several traditions, and still are. If you're looking for a pipe band concert to really do something new, you're not really looking for pipe band music. It is amazing enough how well bands like that play, why is "new" so important in a traditional music form?

As I re-read my comment I thought, perhaps I was a bit unclear. Mr. Rogers review was good with comments that conveyed an experience of the performance. The comments of envy I refer to are those that preceded mine here.

Hang on a wee minute. I was just asking if the band played anything new. 78ths are one of my best bands but I always think of them coming out with new material every year. Reading the review it looks like they are more into playing greatest hits. Nothing wrong with that its just a different era I suppose. Im sure they have lots more suprises in store though. Herodatus never played in a pipe band by the way!

When competing, play to your strengths, not your weaknesses. It's useless to play 'Susan MacLeod' if you are not able to make strong clear darados. Steer clear of the 'Atholl Cummers' if you can't make F doublings. Concentrate on tunes that allow you to show off the best of your finger technique.
