Thank you so much for this article. I had the great pleasure of knowing John and his family, having gone to school with his son Colin. John taught me a great deal and I have had great success throughout the years competing with tunes that he taught. I heard John play on many occasions. One of my favourite memories is hearing him give a recital at the Saltire Society in Edinburgh in the early 1970's. His playing of the Desperate Battle of the Birds and Kiss of the Kings Hand was extraordinary. However, even better was his knowledge of the history of these compositions. He had the audience enthralled.John was an officer and a gentleman in the best tradition. I am glad to have known him and learned from him. Martin Docherty
