COMMENT(S): 10 Questions With . . . Andrew Hayes

One area that wasn't covered, (and one Andrew could never answer properly) is how much he already gives back to the piping community. He's dedicated so much to his own playing and achieving his own goals, but it's not often known just how much he dedicates to others around him. But any member of the Ottawa Police band, or fellow member of the TPPB or 78th Frasers could tell you how much he's given to them. Or any of his students. And certainly Kylie and me - he's done so much for us in getting through the lengthy Scotland trips (in a tent or a cottage!), and was instrumental in setting the groundwork our arrival at our current positions at the College of Piping in Summerside PEI. A high achiever in all aspects. Well done, buddy! James MacHattie

Masterful Medleys 2009: Peel Regional Policefeatured article

Don't be afraid to modify or undercut holes to improve chanter intonation. It may seem extreme, but there would scarcely be a Grade 1 band that hasn't partaken in a spot of chanter renovation to beneficial effect.
