"Play the goddam music and get over yourself, as far as I'm concerned. You know?" Amen! Truer words were never spoken!

Gerry Quigg I do not know but this interview is excellent and what is said is what I believe many pipers in bands relate to. His comments are so true especially in relation to big bands. I heard 78th practice in Glasgow before the worlds with 30 odd pipers I was expecting this massive sound well tuned but was very much dissappointed.

In the early 1970s I played for a couple of years with the City of Toronto, and the interview with Gerry brings back memories of some larger-than-life personalities. I remember well that "Desperate Battle" medley. The recording of it reveals clearly Gerry's tendency with the band to run away with tunes; but he and Chris Anderson deserve credit for having tried something new and different. David Waterhouse

"Cane and leather was pretty exciting in those circumstances" -- what a great line.... Classic Quigg.

Pipers: The most important aspect of D-throws, grips, taorluaths and crunluaths is the first low-G. Concentrate on getting good depth to that and the rest will follow.
