A very generous move on R. McNeil and SFU's part to share with others their road in success, a true example of growing of piping and drumming by leadership. Very well written and helpful.

Another tip: get out there and make yourself available and known in your area. You can gain a lot of supporters simply by being out there! My band plays in approximately 100 engagments a year (not always the full band, sometimes quartets or solo/duo performances) in parades, pubs, parties, convocation and commencement ceremories, community arts shows and the local tourist and historical sites. Last time we went to the Worlds, members paid less than $1000 ea for flight, bus and accommodation because of all the fundraising we did! Just get out there and be accessible!
