It is a true insight to compare the quality of each individual PM's pipes in this series of videos (i.e. what they regard as the optimum band instrument sound). It is a direct reflection of their respective bands and the sound produced. There is a story being told here. IMHO, Armstrong's instrument is head and shoulders above the rest - a bristling and bold chanter with refined tuning, backed by full, robust, resonant and harmonic drones. They are all class players, but there is a distinct gulf in overall tonal quality and depth of sound between one of them and the pack.
