COMMENT(S): What the world's top pipe band pipe-sections are playing

| I'd imagine even when you start comparing the top of grade 1 to the bottom, the mixing of equipment( especially drone reeds ) wouldn't even matter as much when your dealing with inconsistent blowing and stuff like that... I am surprised that grade 1 bands have a mix of bag types. Pretty sure that's a no no with the top bands in the grade.. |

| Andrew.....some thoughts/questions....
What brand of drones are these bands playing? A big issue of harmonics on the solo circuit, but in the comp circle?
Of those bands that mix and match components, I wonder if that influences where a piper is placed in the ranks and in the circle?
Last, I wonder, do finances, expense and/or sponsorship have an influence upon what a band plays?

| To jenfeb:
While I agree with you, if there is a sound you are specifically looking for, the Pipe Majors of top bands are often asked those questions, and seem to be willing to answer without hesitation. If you were to look up interviews with Richard Parkes, Terry Tully, Terry Lee, or Stuart Liddell, I'm sure you could find it. Interesting nonetheless.
Great article! Thanks again for sharing. It always amazes me how different the drone reeds being used are.

| OK, so you guaranteed anonymity, but it sure would be interesting and educational to know things like: is it the TOP bands or the BOTTOM bands which allow mixing of equipment. | |
