COMMENT(S): A student's guide to piping and university/college - Part 2

I wish that I had the fortitude and the luck that these young people have had.Three degrees and crowded student residences/housing,thirty years plus ago, ended piping and even chanter practice months at a time. Both of these articles are timely in view of the larger numbers of pipers in my area with five universities and several colleges within an hour of each other. To even play in one's house with the windows open might attract a visit from the by-laws officer or the police in some places-during the day!Nevertheless plaudits and kudos to the authors and P&D for publishing these articles.

I really enjoyed reading the views and about the experiences of these three young people. Faye said, "...balancing piping and my studies is a challenge, which requires organization and commitment. That being said, I realize that I will never have as much spare time as I do now". I was glad to hear her say that, because over the years I have heard many promising young pipers say "well, I'm going to University now and I don't have time to practice", and I always said to myself as soon as I heard that, "well, there's another one who won't make it". Good luck to these three young pipers, there's no chance they'll make that mistake!
