The photo of Jim, Mike and Scott which accompanies the video, is taken from my vantage point, as I lay in bed at the famous West End Hotel run by the redoubtable Mrs. Elsom. These three kept me up until 5 a.m. after I had won the Clasp with the Prince's Salute. They thought it would be great fun to waken my used up bones by playing that tune at the foot of my bed. They're all looking down because they had to read the music. They couldn't have been any better shape than I was, which was dodgy at best. What a stunt and what a memory.

Insightful discussion on the composer leaving more of a legacy than the player, and I agree. The prize-winners of 75 years ago are names on lists with other prize-winners and we look at the lists and try to figure out which dead guy won the most prizes. The composers still move us.
