In my opinion, Michael has written some of the most popular tunes (the greatest compliment for any composer) of not just the past 30 years, but of all-time. The simple reason is that he’s composed tunes that are, in general, melodic, unforgettable and logical to play (in terms of phrase structure). It’s not born from genius. It’s not a ‘gift’. It all comes from a love and sincere care for the instrument and it’s craft. Reading Michael’s thoughts, that seems very obvious. I’ll confess that some more recent ‘suite’ type compositions have challenged me, but that’s just how things go. Long may he continue on his undefined, unrestricted path of music and “nine blasted notes”!

Pipers: When making a taorluath or crunluath from D, slightly flex the right-hand's fingers out a bit just before the movement. This will help to lift the ring-finger for that B gracenote.
