Nice article! If readers would like to hear examples of the "Traditional" and "Modern" scales synthesized with precise frequency ratios, please visit my web page at: http://www.umich.edu/~emacpher/pipes/acoustics/hearscales.html In 1998, I did some careful analysis of the chanter tuning of the soloists on the 1996 Piping Centre recital CDs, and confirmed that they mostly used the Modern scale, although there seemed to be some personal taste involved in tuning high A and (sometimes) low G. The sharp "Traditional" D and high G were not observed. Data at: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~emacpher/pipes/acoustics/chanterdata.html

Pipers: When making a taorluath or crunluath from D, slightly flex the right-hand's fingers out a bit just before the movement. This will help to lift the ring-finger for that B gracenote.
