Dowco Triumph Street qualifies for Winter Olympics
Published: September 22, 2009

The Grade 1 Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band, of Vancouver has been selected by the Vancouver Olympic Committee to be the official pipe band for the curling events at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter games.

The band will perform for Olympic and Paralympic curling opening ceremonies on February 16 and March 13, 2010, respectively, and will provide "micro-bands" to bring the teams into the venue prior to each match. There are three sessions each day for the Olympics and two for the Paralympics.

"We are very excited to be associated with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games," said Pipe-Major David Hilder. "This is a tremendous opportunity to be involved in one of the greatest sporting events in the World. We look forward to playing a major role in welcoming the world to the Vancouver Olympics in 2010."

According to Hilder the band secured the bid after it participated in the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships in March, which was the first event ever to be held at the new Olympic curling venue in Richmond, British Columbia.

The 2010 Winter Olympics officially begin on February 12th; the Paralympics on March 12th.

Pipers: When making a taorluath or crunluath from D, slightly flex the right-hand's fingers out a bit just before the movement. This will help to lift the ring-finger for that B gracenote.
