Published: October 23, 2009
The bands invited to the March 20, 2010, Grade 1 Invitational Indoor Pipe Band Competition in Glasgow have been decided, and Inveraray & District is one of them, making the event the first for the band in Grade 1.
Also competing at the event at the Radisson SAS Hotel to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Lomond & Clyde are Ballycoan, Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia, Cullybackey, Fife Constabulary, House of Edgar-Shotts & Dykehead, Robert Wiseman Dairies-Vale of Atholl and the Tayside Police.
The competition will see the eight bands divided into two heats, with the top two bands from each heat competing in an evening final. The competition will be judged according to RSPBA Championship regulations.
First prize is £2500, second, third and fourth are £1500, £500 and £100. By contrast, the winner of the World Championship received a prize of £1000.
"This fantastic event is definitely going to form a major part in the 2010 pipe band calendar," said Fraser Sergeant, Chairman of Lomond & Clyde. "We would like to thank all the bands for entering the competition and hope that the event gives the audience a close-up opportunity to listen to the bands in a fantastic environment."
Inveraray & District was promoted to Grade 1 after winning all of the Grade 2 contests at the five RSPBA major championships in 2009.
Sergeant said that there are 300 all-day tickets available to start, each priced at £20. The ticket cost will increase to £25 when the first lot is sold. Tickets are available online and directly from the band.
