McInnes and Lyons enjoy R.U. Brown success in Adelaide

Adelaide, Australia – May 1, 2010 – The annual solo piping competitions organized by the R.U. Brown Society of South Australia saw a full slate of events, and in the end Alistair McInnes took home the gold medal for piobaireachd and Ian Lyons captured the top prize for the Open MSR. The competitions were held in great weather at the Scotch College in Adelaide.

Quality reed selection is a pre-requisite to obtaining a good tone in a pipe corps. Four criteria to consider when testing reeds are balance, vibrancy, volume and strength. Check the High A Low A balance against a single sounding tenor drone - if these two notes are in the ballpark chances are the rest of the notes can be tuned.
