Published: July 30, 2011

Maxville, Ontario – July 30, 2011 – The Peel Regional Police Pipe Band won its second consecutive North American Championship in perfect conditions at a heavily attended Glengarry Highland Games at Maxville, Ontario. The band won the overall award despite finishing second in both of the Medley and MSR events, which the 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel) and Toronto Police Pipe Band won, respectively. New Westminster Police won the Grade 2 competition. The weather was warm with intense sunshine throughout the day.

In the Professional Solo Piping, Alex Gandy of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, won the overall award, while Jeremy Keddy took the aggregate in the Professional Solo Snare Drumming.

At the massed bands ceremony, Reay Mackay and Ed Neigh each were presented with Honourary Lifetime Memberships to the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario for their contributions over the last four decades.

The Glengarry Highland Games presented each member of the Peel Regional Police with a specil pin to commemorate their North American Championship. The games said that it will make this a new tradition.
