Auld acquaintance won't be forgot as the year 2012 closes – and what a piping and drumming year it was. We once again present our annual pipes|drums New Year's Honours awards! This year's honours mark the tenth anniversary of the awards.
We assembled another panel of experts from around the world, and each was asked to make their selections in various categories, or write-in any pipers, drummers, bands, products or events that were not listed. Panelists represented a worldwide cross-section, none of whom were directly attached to any band or business.
We once again have two categories for pipers: one strictly for solo competition success and the other for all pipers for all of their work in the art. With few music collections put out in 2012, these were again combined in a single product category.
Voting was close, and every nominee in each category received at least one vote, which perhaps tells us that the piping and drumming world is as much or more than ever spoiled-for-choice when it comes to quality. Each panelist could make only one selection in each category, and we asked them to provide a brief comment on their choices.
