The eighth annual Balmoral Classic, featuring the US Junior
Solo Highland Piping and Scottish Snare Drumming Championships are scheduled
for Saturday, November 22, 2014 in Pittsburgh. Piping judges this year are Brian Donaldson, Ed Neigh, and Dr. Jack Taylor. Drumming judges are Gordon Bell and Jon Quigg. (www.BalmoralClassic.org)
Overall winners in
MSR and Piobaireachd events will each receive a set of new bagpipes donated by
McCallum and Inveran bagpipe manufacturers. Overall winner in the Snare Drumming contests (MSR &
H/J) will receive a Premier HTS-800 snare drum donated by Henderson Imports. Former
winners are not eligible to compete.
Contestants who have not reached their 22th birthday by
November 22, 2014 are eligible to apply. Contestants from any country are
eligible.

Medals, scholarships, and additional prizes will be awarded,
similar to those of previous years.
Additional highlights of the weekend include:
Friday night, November 21 reception/ceilidh for the
competitors, families, judges, guests and supporters at one of Pittsburgh’s oldest
private clubs;
Saturday evening concert featuring The Battlefield Band, 2013
winner of the Scots Trad “Album of the Year” Award.
