‘Ceilidh 5’ Charity Concert Showcases All-Star Talent

An all-star lineup of Scottish piping and folk music talent has once again been assembled for the fifth annual “Ceilidh” in Glasgow on April 25, with all proceeds going towards the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Scotland.

Held at Henry Wood Halls, Berkley Street, Glasgow, the event features the Boghall & Bathgate Pipe Band, The Porridgemen, Alisdair MacCuish and The Black Rose Ceilidh Band, The Burns Brothers, and The Reel Thing.

Boghall & Bathgate will reportedly perform, for only the second time on stage, its acclaimed Don Bradford-penned suite, “A Call To The Gathering,” with accompaniment from The Porridgemen.

“I became involved because my brother and his wife have a son who has Cystic Fibrosis,” said Brian McComish, organizer of the event and a member of Boghall & Bathgate. “I had the idea to run a ceilidh to raise money for research after hearing the news, and I hoped to have the best traditional musicians involved, to guarantee a great evening for people from the pipe band world to normal ceilidh-going followers.”

“Last year the event netted £11,786 — not bad for one night’s
work,” McComish continued. “The night had a few famous faces there from Boghall, Shotts, ScottishPower, Field Marshal, Strathclyde Police and other members of the pipe band fraternity, and brought everybody together for an excellent social occasion, again at the same time raising money for charity.”

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and runs until 2:00 a.m. Tickets are £10. More information is available from Brian McComish.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects the lungs and liver and can seriously shorten the life expectancy of those suffering from it.
