Callum Harper of Bolton, Ontario, emerged the overall winner and 2012 George Sherriff Memorial Amateur Invitational Solo Piping Competition champion at the annual event, held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in the downtown of Canada’s seventh biggest city. Harper took the prize with firsts in the MSR and 6/8 Marches events, and a fourth in the Piobaireachd. The competition showcases 10 of the most successful Grade 1 Amateur soloists from across North America, each nominated by their home associations. Among other prizes, the aggregate winner of the Sherriff receives a stipend of $800 to travel to compete in Scotland and a set of pipes from McCallum Bagpipes.
