Competitors Set for Harrison Invitational Solo Drumming

North America’s best pipe band snare drummers will converge again in Hamilton, Ontario, for the annual George Harrison Invitational Solo Drumming Championship on Saturday, March 9.

Held at the elegant Officers’ Mess at the James Street Armoury of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada, the event is seen as the most prestigious drumming event outside of the World Solo Drumming Championships in Scotland.

There are three sections at this year’s Harrison: Grade 2, Grade 1, and Open. Scheduled to compete in the Open event are Richard Baughman, Toronto Police; Andrew Hoinacki, Chicago Caledonian; Ian Madieros, Toronto Police; Jeremy Keddy, Toronto Police; Michael Crawley, 78th Fraser Highlanders; Harvey Dawson, Niagara Police; Craig Stewart, Toronto Police; Jacquie Troy, Toronto; Sandy McKail, Celtic Flair; and Alan Savage, Toronto Police.

Judging the 2002 event will be Blair “Buzz” Brown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Brown has been a long-time member of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band.

Admission is $5 for members of the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario, and $8 for non-members. The Grade 2 event starts at 7:05 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
