Field-Marshal Montgomery: 2004 World Champions

Glasgow – August 14, 2004 – Field-Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band of Northern Irelandbecame the 2004 World Pipe Band Champions here today in good weather at a crowded Glasgow Green. Grade 1 results were not announced until 7:30 p.m.

Simon Fraser University won the MSR event, while Field Marshal Montgomery took the Medley.

The Grade 2 contest was by some accounts the most exciting and close of the day. Non-Scottish bands, as in most recent years, again did well. In fact, only three Scottish bands made the prize lists across grade 2, 3A and 3B, amounting to only 17 per cent of the 18 available prizes.

The two Grade 2 piping judges were fairly close in their rankings, except in the case of the Glengarry Pipe Band, which had second and twelfth placings.
