Loreena McKennitt makes three-year pledge to Summerside College of Piping

The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts at Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada, is to receive at least three years of financial support from the international Celtic music artist, Loreena McKennitt, through her own Three Oaks Foundation. Scott MacAulay, director of the Summerside College says that the amount of the pledge is “substantial.”

“Loreena McKennitt is an icon in the field of Celtic music,” MacAulay says. “We are particularly pleased and very honoured to announce our partnership with her.”

According to a spokesperson for McKennitt, “Loreena and the Foundation committee were very interested to learn of the College’s unique programming, its involvement with local communities, and its international appeal. We are pleased to be affiliated with The College of Piping in Summerside.”

The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada is the only year-round institution of its kind in North America. It is affiliated with the College of Piping in Glasgow.

McKennitt has sold more than 12 million albums worldwide, and her recording, The Book of Secrets, has achieved double-platinum certification in the United States for sales of more than two-million copies. Two other albums, The Mask and the Mirror and The Visit have also gone platinum.
