2008 Cowal Champions: Field Marshal Montgomery

Dunoon, Scotland – August 30, 2008 – Field Marshal Montgomery of Belfast took home the 2008 Cowal Championship, while St. Laurence O’Toole clinched the very close 2008 RSPBA Champion of Champions award after a very close table of results that made Cowal the deciding contest, with SLOT, FMM and Shotts all within striking distance of gaining the award. Shotts took the Champion of Champions award for drumming.

In a break with custom, the RSPBA announced the Grade 1 prizes first, allowing those bands to be first, if they wished, to play “down the road” in the tradition end-of-season march. The association also posted the rest of the results on its website before they were actually announced to the bands, resulting in many bands knowing the results before they were said, and leaving the field.
