10-year-old Springbank toasts with new format
To celebrate its tenth anniversary, the Springbank Invitational Solo Piping Competition on Saturday, September 12th, at the Argyll Arms Hotel in Campbeltown, Scotland, is adding a unique new twist, with a new 6/8 March event.
That may not seem terribly new, but the competition requires players to use it as part of their tuning before the Piobaireachd competition, according to organizers with the hope of making things “a bit more interesting” than the usual tuning phrases. Not only that, but the 6/8 march must be a tune composed by a native of Argyllshire.
The 6/8 march event is in addition to the usual Piobaireachd, MSR and Hornpipe and Jig sections.
