Fisher and Wilson confirmed as Maxville adjudicators

Maxville_logo_2014The Glengarry Highland Games have confirmed that it will be bringing in both John Fisher and John Wilson to judge drumming and piping, respectively, and bands at the event most pipers and drummers refer to simply as “Maxville.”

The event comprises the North American Championships for solos and bands, and will be held in the tiny village of Maxville in eastern Ontario on July 31st and August 1st. Fewer than 1,000 people live in the town, which balloons with more than 50,000 spectators attending the Glengarry games. It will be the 68th anniversary of the event in 2015.

Fisher hails from Victoria, British Columbia, and was the leading-drummer of several Grade 1 bands, including City of Victoria, the 78th Fraser Highlanders and Spirit of Scotland. He also played in Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia in the 1970s under leading-drummer Alex Duthart.

From Campbeltown, Scotland, Wilson is a familiar presence at Maxville, having judged there several times previously. He was pipe-sergeant for many years of the 12-time World Champion Strathclyde Police and won just about everything there is in top solo piping events.

Wilson is an RSPBA-certified judge. To secure an RSPBA judge, events outside of the UK must submit an application and obtain approval from the association.

Wilson is scheduled to judge the piping in the Grade 1 Qualifier at the 2015 World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow two weeks later, where most of the bands competing in the top grade at Maxville will vie to secure a spot in the Grade 1 Final.

Bob Worrall is scheduled to judge the Gold Medal and Bar Piobaireachd events on the Friday. Wilson is the likely adjudicator of the Glengarry Cup MSR on Saturday morning.
