Cowan new Killeen L-D

Northern Ireland’s Grade 2 Killeen Pipe band has made John Cowan the band’s new Leading-Drummer after the band’s annual general meeting on November 2. Cowan takes over from Trevor McGavigan.

McGavin had informed the band last May that he would step down, but saw the band through the season in which it won the All-Ireland, was fourth at the Scottish Championships and third at the Scottish.

John Cowan played with the Grade 1 Royal Ulster Constabulary in the 1990s, and was most recently with the now defunct Glasgow Pipes & Drums.

“On behalf of the band I would like to thank Trevor for all his hard work and commitment that he has given over this past five years and wish him all the best for the future,” said Pipe-Major Philip Boyce. “John Cowan comes to the band with a lot of experience having played at the top level for many years. On behalf of Killeen we would wish John lots of Success in his new position.”
