London extends closing date to accommodate pipers

The Scottish Piping Society of London (SPSL) is extending the entry deadline for its annual solo piping competitions so that pipers competing at the Northern Meeting have an additional week to submit their application. The new closing date is September 7th.

According to organizers, some pipers expressed concern about the original deadline coinciding with the Northern Meeting August 30-31 at Aviemore, Scotland.

The SPSL competitions will be held on November 3rd, at the Kensington Conference Centre in London. The contest will change venue in 2007 to accommodate larger entries with which the previous Glaziers’ Hall location was having difficulty coping.

London is seen as the first major contest of the new piping year, with the winner of the Bratach Gorm piobaireachd competition being the second qualifier for the Glenfiddich Championships. The first qualifier is the winner of the Glenfiddich.
