MP3 highlight: Angus MacColl wins Todd Bar Recital Challenge
Glasgow – August 14, 2008 – At a packed house of more than 200 keen piping enthusiasts, Angus MacColl of Benderloch, Scotland, took home the coveted Todd Bar Recital Challenge first prize with an a frequently spellbinding display of piping.
The contest has become one of the main World’s Week events, and this year was sponsored by McCallum Bagpipes, which also gave away a prize set of pipes to a lucky attendee.
MacColl competed against stiff competition in Chris Armstrong, Airth, Scotland; Alasdair Gillies, Pittsburgh; and Stuart Liddell, Inveraray, Scotland.
The winner of the event was determined by a panel of five unknown judges, who rendered a simple list of placings, one through four. Each competitor could play whatever they wanted over 30 to 40 minutes, provided they included the ground of a piobaireachd and a traditional march, strathspey and reel set at some point.
Of the many highlights at the contest was Craig Colquhoun on bass drum accompanying Alasdair Gillies.

Anyone heard whether they plan to produce a cd of this year’s Lord Todd event?
Dunno about that, but all four Champions are on the new Winter Storm 2008 concert CD. Word is the Lord Todd event was fabulous!
