McClamrock rocks 2007 Sherriff

2007 George Sherriff champion Ben McClamrock of Baltimore receives the overall trophy from PPBSO President Bob Allen.Hamilton, Ontario – November 17, 2007 – Ben McClamrock of Baltimore (pictured right) was the overall winner of the 2007 George Sherriff Memorial Amateur Invitational Solo Piping Competition, held at McMaster University’s Convocation Hall. In addition to a trophy, banner and medals, McClamrock received $800 towards a trip to Scotland for piping purposes and a set of new pipes from McCallum Bagpipes of Kilmarnock, Scotland.

McClamrock’s first, second and third prizes across the three events put him in a tie with Alastair Lee of Coquitlam, British Columbia, for the overall prize, which was broken by McClamrock having a higher prize in the Piobaireachd event. Faye Henderson of Kirriemuir, Scotland, was third overall.

Also competing but not in the prizes were Adam Baines, Sarnia, Ontario; Justin Celek, Pasadena, California; Dan Cole, Schenectady, New York; and Erika Kelly, Georgetown, Ontario. The top four overall prizewinners also received a new MC2 pipe chanter from McCallum Bagpipes.

All events were judged by Andrew Berthoff, Michael Grey and James W. Troy. Among more than 30 sponsors, pipes|drums donated $500 to the event, which is organized by a team of volunteers, spearheaded by Bob Worrall of Burlington, Ontario. Peter Aumonier was the emcee for the competition.
