Robertson new P-M of New Zealand Police

Iain Robertson, previously Pipe-Sergeant, has taken over from Graeme Bilsland as Pipe-Major of the Grade 1 New Zealand Police Pipe Band of Wellington, New Zealand.

Bilsland served as Pipe-Major of the band for five years and stepped down citing family commitments. Vaughn Wheeler, also a long-time member of the band has been elevated to Pipe-Sergeant.

No further significant changes to New Zealand Police’s personnel were revealed by a source close to the band. Raymond Malcolm’s role as Leading-Drummer is also unchanged.

The band is a perennial contender and the current holder of the New Zealand Pipe Band Championship. The group traveled to Scotland to compete at the World’s and other contests in 2006. It finished eleventh in the Grade 1 Qualifying contest after taking second and third in events at North Berwick.

The band’s first competition under Robertson will be the Square Day at Palmerston North in December.
