The Sons of Scotland Pipe Band present the 3rd annual celebration of tartans, music and multiculturalism - National Tartan Day being held on Sunday, April 5 on Parliament Hill at 12 noon. The National Piping Centre is about to start a new term of evening classes. So if you have ever thought about learning the bagpipes then this could be for you! The term lasts 10 weeks and is only ?80 (?70 U16s) and is suitable for everyone from absolute beginners to those who just need a little fine tuning! The lessons are one hour long with groups determined by age and ability (where possible). So if you love the pipes and want to know a little more come along to one of our enrolment nights on Wednesday 15th or Thursday 16th between 6.30 ¨C 8.30pm at the National Piping Centre. Term starts on week commencing 18th April until 25th June.

SL78th will take the stage for a 2 hour show that will include a special appearance by 'A Folk Thing', a mini-band featuring Uilleann pipes, whistles, small pipes, guitars and percussion, and Drum Major exhibitions by world-class Kevin MacHeffner. Each year the Academy offers instruction in North Carolina providing access to some of the finest instructors available. Located at the Valle Crucis Conference Center in Valle Crucis, North Carolina (near Grandfather Mountain) the North American Academy of Piping and Drumming offers instruction in weekly increments from June 21 through July 24, 2009. New instructors included this year are Doug Stronach (snare), Reagan Jones (tenor), and Lyric Todkill (pipes). Seven of the world's top drummers, including three World Solo Champions, will offer their talents to charity when they take part in the second annual Charity Piping & Drumming Night. The evening will also include solo pipers Chris Armstrong, Stuart Liddell, Alen Tully and Andrew Carlisle. All proceeds from the event will go to the Fort Riding Centre for Disabled Children in Maghera.

Indoor competition for solo piping and drumming and also drum corps and quintettes. Mainly Scandinavian and continental competitors. Started 1973.
