Glasgow Skye Appoints Campbell P/M

The well-established Grade 1 Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band of Glasgow, Scotland, has appointed Craig Campbell of Lochgilphead, Scotland, Pipe Major, taking over from Iain Roddick of Carluke, Scotland, who resigned the post at the conclusion of the 2000 season.

Sources also tell P&D Online that Campbell will be joined at Glasgow Skye by his brother Ian, also of Lochgilphead, who holds the position of Pipe Sergeant.

Both of the Campbells were formerly with the ScottishPower Pipe Band of Glasgow.

Roddick, a former member of the British Caledonian Airways, Polkemmet Colliery, and Shotts & Dykehead pipe bands, led Glasgow Skye for nearly a decade in the 1990s.

Glasgow Skye has been a Grade 1 band since the late 1980s. It was an extremely successful band in Grade 2 for many years. Under Pipe Major Kenneth MacLeod, the band became a formidable force on the RSPBA circuit, which continued after MacLeod turned the reins over to Roddick.

In recent years, Glasgow Skye has experienced a relative downturn in results, culminating in a disappointing 2000 season. It is believed that no bands have been recommended for relegation to Grade 2 by the RSPBA’s Music Board. Unconfirmed reports have stated that the Lothian & Borders Police and Bucksburn & District pipe bands have been recommended to return to Grade 1 for 2001.
