2007 Piping Live! schedule expands with new acts

In advance of the organization’s May 24 news conference in Glasgow to announce the schedule of events for the 2007 version of the Piping Live! International Piping Festival, pipes|drums has obtained advance notification from sources close to the event.

The full schedule as it stands now is available here.

Among the acts performing at this year’s Festival are Anna Murray, Wolfstone, The Finlay MacDonald Band, Daimh, Bodego, Patrick Molard and the Peatbog Faeries. Pipe bands will again feature prominently, with Grade 1 bands like ScottishPower, the Australia Highlanders, the LA Scots and the 78th Highlanders Halifax Citadel working the George Square crowds.

The National Piping Centre again will act as the headquarters for all things Piping Live!, and recitals and concerts will be held at the McPhater Street venue, including those by solo pipers Willie McCallum, Simon McKerrell, Alasdair Gillies, and Fred Morrison. Six full concerts will be featured, including a “Pipes & Strings” evening, celebrating the close musical alliance between the instruments.

Five Grade 1 bands have committed to a new Quartet competition on August 7.

The Festival will conclude with a “massive” post-worlds party on August 11 at the Old Fruitmarket.

“Last year’s event was a fantastic success with almost 30,000 people attending throughout the week,” Piping Live! Director Roddy MacLeod said in a statement. “2007 is already looking bigger and better and we hope that Piping Live! will enjoy its busiest year yet.”
