Al Ash resigns as Niagara Police Pipe-Major

Al Ash has resigned as Pipe-Major of Ontario’s Grade 2 Nigara Regional Police Pipe Band. His replacement is not yet known.

Under Ash’s leadership, Niagara has consistently been at the top of Grade 2 in North America. In 2001, the band narrowly missed winning the Grade 2 event at the World Pipe Band Championships, finishing second. Niagara Regional Police finished sixth at last year’s World’s.

While the band had a successful 2003 campaign, the Windsor Police Pipe Band came away with the PPBSO Champion Supreme award in Grade 2.

Ash’s resignation is the second to hit a top Ontario band after the 2003 season. In December, Ian K. MacDonald resigned the Pipe-Majorship of the Toronto Police, giving way to James MacHattie.
