Alex Gandy: Sherriff Champion

Hamilton, Ontario – November 19, 2005 – Alex Gandy of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was the overall winner of the ninth annual George Sherriff Amateur Invitational Solo Piping Competition, held at the Officers Mess of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada’s James Street Armoury. Colin Lee of Surrey, British Columbia, was a close second. Along with airfare to compete in Scotland, Gandy took home a full set of silver-engraved McCallum pipes.

Also competing but not in the prizes were Gordon Conn of Calgary and Kylie MacHattie of Toronto. Robbie Beaton of Scotia, New York, could not attend due to illness.

All events were judged by Peter Aumonier, Nancy Tunnicliffe and John Wilson. Tunnicliffe was not allowed to travel from Albany, New York, by air due to not having a passport, but nonetheless still made the event by driving the eight-hour trip to Hamilton.
