Andrew Bonar wins BC Knockout

Vancouver – March 11, 2006 – Andrew Bonar of Surrey, British Columbia, won the BC Pipers’ Association Professional Piping Knockout Final for the sixth time, becoming the ultimate winner of an elimination-style event that started in November last year.

Jori Chisholm of Seattle was second in what some said was “a close contest.” Danielle Millar, Burnaby, BC, and James P. Troy, Victoria, BC, were also in the final that called for each competitor to perform eight-to-10 minutes of material of their choosing.

Judges for the final were Peter Aumonier, Jack Lee and Terry Lee.

The evening, held at the United Scottish Cultural Centre, also saw presentations to the Robert Malcolm Memorial III Pipe Band for winning the 2005 World Juvenile Pipe Band Championship, and to Jack Lee on the 25th anniversary of his winning the Highland Society of London Gold Medal and the Silver Star at the Northern Meeting.

The BC Pipers Association presented its first Mary MacKinnon Memorial Service Award, honouring the late secretary of the BCPA, to joint recipients Lynn Bullis, Chief Steward of the BCPA and former secretary of the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band organization, and Moira Mack, BCPA Competition Secretary and secretary of the White Spot Pipe Band organization.
