Arisaig gets funding for piping events from Glenlivet

The piping competitions at one of Scotland’s longest-running and most popular Highland games with soloists will receive a major injection of funding this year from Glenlivet Whisky. Organizers say that Arisaig will now have “some of the biggest prizes in piping” as a result of the sponsorship.

“It is hoped, too, that the numbers of pipers will be increased and provide a greater spectacle for this celebration of Highland culture,” said Arisaig Games Promotions Manager, Chas MacDonald. “Support from such a high-profile brand is an exciting development for our event.”

The Arisaig Highland Games are a part of an overall “An Tilleadh” festival, running from July 27-28, with the piping competitions taking place on the 28th. The event said that it will unveil a website this summer.

The monetary amounts of the new prizes for the solo piping competitions were not immediately disclosed by the organizers.

Arisaig Highland Games have been increasingly popular with non-UK-based solo pipers, and last year Martin Kessler of Germany was the overall winner.
