Armstrong elected new ScottishPower pipe-major

Sources report that Chris Armstrong was elected pipe-major of the ScotttishPower Pipe Band, taking over from Roddy MacLeod who resigned the post in September.

Armstrong has been pipe-major of the David Urquhart Travel Pipe Band since 2003. He took on the position when Don Bradford left that band to start the Glasgow Pipes & Drums. Bradford left the new band after a year to join the Strathclyde Police.

Piper & Drummer Online has also received news that David Urquhart Travel’s pipe section has moved with Armstrong to ScottishPower. There is no word yet as to who is the new DUT pipe-major.

Reliable sources have also reported that several pipers left ScottishPower after Armstrong’s election.

Chris Armstrong is most known for his competitive solo career and recordings. He won the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medal at the Northern Meeting in 2004.
