Atholl & Breadalbane Gathering cancelled due to rain

With a games ground bordering the River Tay, the Atholl & Breadalbane Gathering at Aberfeldy, Scotland, has decided to cancel the 2011 event, originally scheduled for August 13th, because of a waterlogged ground.

While the event coincides with the World Pipe Band Championships, which is so far going ahead at Glasgow Green as planned, many solo pipers not with bands prefer to compete at Aberfeldy, making it a popular destination on the Scottish solo calendar.

“Solo pipers not involved in the World’s will be disappointed,” said organizer Duncan McDiarmid.

Notwithstanding some sunny days, most of Scotland has been best with rain for much of the summer, including the most recent few days leading up to the World’s. The most recent forecast for Saturday in Glasgow is for “heavy rain” and a high of 18 degrees.
