Band makes annual a-Peel for donations to toy drive

There’s more to piping and drumming than gaining prizes and winning competitions, and the Grade 1 Peel Regional Police Pipe Band of Brampton, Ontario, is once again calling out to the community of pipers and drummers to support the police force’s Toys for Tots Campaign.

Last year the band joined the drive after a tractor-trailer of toys to the campaign was stolen. This year the band is asking willing donors to bring contributions – unwrapped new toys or cash – to the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario’s Champion Supreme Gala on November 6th.

The band will have a special table set up at the gala for toy drop-offs and donations. The table will be managed by members of the band, which will also perform during the evening as recipients of the Grade 1 Champion Supreme award for most points accrued at PPBSO sanctioned events during the 2010 competition season.

The band described the piping and drumming community’s response to the Toys for Tots campaign as “amazing,” with several carloads and numerous cash donations coming in. The stolen trailer was later recovered by Peel Police officers.

Those not attending the Champion Supreme Gala who wish to make a donation can contact the band for more information, or send cheques to “PRPPB, c/o PO Box 32, Brights Grove, Ontario N0N 1C0 Canada.”
