Bob Macdonald, 1928-2010

Robert Henderson “Bob” Macdonald, the former Pipe-Major of the Toronto Police Pipe Band, died in Richmond Hill, Ontario, on July 20, 2010, at the age of 82 after an illness.

An immigrant to Canada from Scotland, Macdonald was a member of the Edinburgh City Police Pipe Band and served in the military and was a piper with the Black Watch. When he settled in Toronto he joined the Toronto Scottish Pipe Band and subsequently joined the Grade 1 Caber Feidh Pipe Band before progressing to the Toronto Police.

Among Macdonald’s many accomplishments as a piper was starting the noted piper Jason Briscoe, his grandson, on the pipes.

The funeral service is scheduled for July 24th at the Marshall Funeral Home in Richmond Hill at 2 pm.

On behalf of the piping and drumming world, we extend our condolences at this sad time to Bob Macdonald’s survivors and his many friends.
