Boghall & Bathgate to stage annual pre-World’s Concert

The Boghall &
Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band
will take the Glasgow’s
Royal Concert Hall
stage on August 11, 2004, for the annual
“pre-World’s” concert in Glasgow, the event that many consider the
most important pipe band performance of the year.

Sponsored since 1993 by the Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band (now
named
Phoenix Honda Glasgow Skye
), when the event was held in
Motherwell, Scotland, the 2004 concert will be the first time that
Boghall & Bathgate has performed the pre-World’s show.

“This will be Boghall?s first appearance at the ‘World’s’ concert
and is eagerly anticipated by all the band members and friends,”
said Boghall & Bathgate Pipe-Major Ross Walker. “With the band
back to top form, the emphasis of the evening?s entertainment will
be on piping and drumming, though there will be a wide variety of
musical content and accompaniment throughout. Most notably,
perhaps, Boghall will be joined on stage for part of the concert by
The Whitburn Band, currently one of the U.K.?s premier competition
brass bands.”

According to Phoenix Honda Glasgow Skye Pipe-Major Craig Campbell,
“We are looking forward to another full house with an exciting new
show.”

Campbell stressed that the concert is not part of the new Festival
of Piping that will be held in Glasgow in the week leading up to
the World’s.

“We wish them well with they’re venture, but we are still
independent promoters of this concert and not just part of the
Piping Centre week,” Campbell added.

McKenzie added to Boghall ranks

Walker also stated that Stewart McKenzie, Pipe-Major of New
Zealand’s Manawatu Scottish Pipe Band, will join Boghall as a guest
player for the 2004 RSPBA competition season.

Boghall & Bathgate ended the 2003 season on a strong note,
winning the European Pipe Band Championship.
