Competing Pipers Association AGM Sunday

The Ramada Hotel in Perth, Scotland, will be the venue for the annual general meeting of the Competing Pipers Association at 11 a.m. on Sunday, November 21.

As reported in May of this year, the CPA will see a completely new executive elected, after President Colin MacLellan, Vice-President Brian Donaldson, and Secretary Jenny Hazzard announced that they would not run again.

It is not known who may be looking for nominations, but it is reported that at least one high-profile piper is interested in taking on the top-spot. Several others are said to keen to take other executive roles.

In addition to MacLellan, past presidents include Willie McCallum and Murray Henderson.

Unlike the rest of the world, Scotland’s solo competitions are not run by a single association. The CPA, which was formed in 1976, so far mainly develops standards and policies for playing and judging, and provides counsel to competitions on request. The CPA organizes several events throughout the year, and ensures that pipers competing at more important contests are graded and play in the appropriate events.
