Competitors lined up for Gordon Duncan Memorial

The participants in the second annual Gordon Duncan Memorial Invitational Solo Piping Competition have been decided, and they represent a cross-section of the best that Scotland, Ireland and Brittany have to offer.

The competition was initiated last January by the Gordon Duncan Memorial Trust, and all proceeds go to the fund to enrich piping tuition efforts in Scotland.

The event will be held in Glasgow on January 27, 2008, in the Logie Baird Suite, beginning at 1 pm.

From Scotland:

  • Roddy MacLeod
  • Willie McCallum
  • Simon McKerrell

From Brittany:

  • Sylvain Hamon
  • Alexis Meunier
  • Xavier Boderiou

From Ireland:

  • Ryan Canning
  • Andrew Carlisle
  • Alen Tully

Competitors will have to play an MSR in the Scottish section, and a five-to-seven-minute medley of their own choice in each of the Breton and Irish events.

The judges for the events are Jackie Pincet and Pierre Gallais in the Breton category; Kenny Stewart and Harry Stevenson, Irish; and Ian Duncan and Iain MacLellan in the Scottish.

John Wilson will emcee the competition.

  1. It would be great if the organizers of this contest could invite once Robert Watt from Northern Ireland to compete. He was a close friend of Gordon Duncan (they have been learning breton tunes together). Robert is also 4 time winner of the MacCrimmon bagpipe competition in Lorient.
