Craig Stewart leaves Toronto Police

Leading-drummer Craig Stewart has departed the Toronto Police Pipe Band after a year in the post. A replacement has not yet been announced.

“Craig Stewart has decided to leave after our views on how to improve the band diverged,” says Pipe-Major James MacHattie. “He was a major contributor to our success in Ontario last season, and I very much enjoyed working with him.”

With MacHattie and Stewart both in first-year leadership roles, the Toronto Police gained the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario’s Champion Supreme award for most aggregate points across the association’s major contests. The band also won the North American Championship at Maxville in August.

The band travelled to the World Pipe Band Championships, but failed to gain a spot in the Grade 1 final.

Craig Stewart is one of North America’s most experienced drummers, previously leading the corps of the Toronto & District, Peel Regional Police, and Niagara Police.
