Dunn appointed acting Field Marshal P-M

The Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band of Belfast has appointed Alistair Dunn acting Pipe-Major of the band, filling in for Richard Parkes as Parkes continues to recover from a stroke suffered on March 8.

“Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band are pleased to confirm the appointment of Alastair Dunn as Acting Pipe-Major,” said Doug Elliott, Field Marshal’s business manager. “The appointment will be effective during the short period of absence of Richard Parkes, who continues to make a good recovery from recent illness.”

Dunn has been with the band since 1997, and has emerged as a solo piping talent, most recently winning the B Grade march at the Argyllshire Gathering in 2003. He is Alastair has a degree in engineering from Queen’s University in Belfast.

Field Marshal’s Pipe-Sergeant will continue to be Brian Martin, who has been with with the band for almost 16 years, and Pipe-Sergeant since 1998.

Elliott confirmed that Field Marshal Montgomery will compete in all five of the RSPBA’s major championships in 2004, as well as several of Northern Ireland’s branch events, and two summer concerts.
